Maya was fired in three different kilns, which is how we achieved the subtle colour variations. The speckle size and spread is completely spontaneous, reflecting it's journey from shaping to firing. We celebrate this difference, and therefor variation should be expected.
All pieces have a slightly oval organic shape. It's made from stoneware, with a clay sourced from far North East Thailand, and then it's fired to extremely high temperatures for over 12 hours (twice!). Making every piece very durable and fully vitrified (a fancy way of saying it won't absorb food and colour).
The Maya collection is handmade by a female studio in North East Thailand, using slip casts, wheels, jiggers and jollys. Its hand glazed and hand trimmed so variation should be expected. Dishwasher Safe, Microwave safe and Oven proof, talk about a triple threat!
Consider mixing the Maya collection up with our Soda pieces as the base shapes are the same, making this collection ideal to be mixed and matched.
